Woman fleeced $825 in Melbourne Cup selfie fail

After posting a selfie of her winning Melbourne Cup ticket on social media, a Perth woman was fleeced of her $825 winnings.

"Winner winner chicken dinner", read the caption with an elated Chantelle holding her winning ticket which unfortunately also displayed the ticket bar code. She went to collect her winnings 15 minutes later to find the prize had already been collected at an automated machine. Chantelle will be reviewing her social media “friends” after the theft. Police believe they’ll be able to track down the machine that was used to identify the culprit. The Melbourne Cup is Australia’s most famous horse race held in early November. This year it was won by a female jockey for the first time - Michelle Payne on Prince of Penzance in 100 to one odds.
