Wales’s newest tour guides: Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter

Tours of Llandudno, in North Wales, will be led by virtual-reality characters from the Alice in Wonderland books. Alice in Wonderland was inspired by Alice Liddell, a friend of the book’s creator Lewis Carroll. She grew up in Oxford but spent many of her holidays in Llandudno. The characters, including the Mad Hatter, the March Hare and Alice herself, feature in an augmented reality app. ‘People who use the app can look at Llandudno landmarks on screen,’ explained one of the creators, ‘while characters from the Alice books tell the story behind them’.
