Take a virtual tour of New York’s seasonal Fifth Avenue shopfronts with Google
Google has launched a new interactive experience that allows users to take a virtual stroll along the iconic, brightly- lit seasonal shop displays of New York City.
Each year, more than five million people travel to Manhattan during the holiday season, with the shop front displays lining Madison and Fifth Avenue proving to be a big draw for tourists and locals alike. With Google’s new, “Window Wonderland” website and mobile experience, would-be travellers from all over the world will be able to get into the Christmas spirit by browsing the displays of 18 stores in the city. The website features hundreds of high-resolution photos of each window stitched together with a new technique that creates realistic and lifelike panoramas. Audio guides from the creative directors of the stores are also available that explain the process of decorating each window display.
The experience can be upgraded further with the use of virtual reality headsets like Google Cardboard or Daydream, which offer the addition of the sounds of other onlookers on the street. Users can zoom in to see details of the displays, including the green jungles decorated with beads and flowers at Bergdorf Goodman, a forest complete with ice skating bunnies at Lord & Taylors and the couture cotton candy gowns at Saks 5th Avenue.
