A fully immersive 360º video allows you to 'travel' along the famous Norwegian Flåm Railway from your sofa
A new fully immersive 360º video has made it possible for viewers to 'travel' along the world-famous Flåm Railway in Norway from the comfort of their own homes. Virtual Flåm is a virtual reality train journey that was created by attaching a 360º camera to the front of the train and recording the entire journey from the driver’s point of view. This journey runs from Myrdal to Flåm, and was named “The world´s most incredible train journey of 2014” by Lonely Planet Traveller.
The Flåm Railway is one of the steepest train journeys in the world on regular tracks, and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Norway. Virtual Flåm is 44 minutes long and captures the beautiful Norwegian high mountain scenery, majestic waterfalls and wild nature seen along the route. It is also compatible with virtual reality devices, which adds to a more immersive experience.
2016 was the 75th anniversary of the Flåm Railway, and 926532 visitors took the journey last year, according to Flåm Utvikling, the company responsible for its sales and marketing activities. "The Flåm Railway is widely recognised as one of the world’s most beautiful train journeys and is also one of the most spectacular tourist attractions in Norway," says Bengt Hammer, marketing manager for Visit Flåm.
"Virtual Flåm has made it possible to show everyone why this specific train journey is so popular," says Charlotte Gogstad, spokesperson for Expedia Norway. "Norway is a country with varied and beautiful landscape. By travelling along the railway some of the most remarkable nature that can be experienced is available to a national and international audience."
