Violence blamed for drop in Kenya tourism

The Kenya Tourism Board figures for the first half of 2014 show that tourist arrivals in Nairobi and Mombasa were down 12% and 24% respectively. June data was the most startling, with arrivals in Kenya down almost 52% from 2013. Industry analysts are now eagerly waiting for the final figures from the year’s third quarter to see what the impact the Mpeketoni incidents in Lamu county and the shootings in the old town of Mombasa have had. These incidents were followed up by anti-travel advisories from the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and other Western nations. The FCO has recently eased its Nairobi advisory and the German government has done the same for Mombasa. Read more:
