Vancouver mayor wants Trump name removed from skyscraper

Mayor Gregor Robertson says he wants Donald Trump’s name to be removed from a 63-storey skyscraper being built in downtown Vancouver.

In a letter to the CEO of the Holborn Group, the property developer that manages the skyscraper, Mayor Robertson said, ‘Trump’s name and brand have no more place on Vancouver’s skyline than his ignorant ideas have in the modern world.’ During his bid to become the Republican candidate for the president of the United States, Donald Trump’s remarks, which include banning all Muslims from entry into the United States and building a wall on the US-Mexico border, have provoked outrage. The Holborn Group said last week that it was ‘not in any way involved in U.S. politics’ and made no indication that it was considering changing the name.

The Trump Vancouver is a 147-room hotel with 218 additional residences scheduled to open in the fall of 2016. The tower will also have a Palm Beach-inspired spa designed by Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump’s daughter. Read more:
