Valentine's Day name-calling sealed with a hiss
It’s the inverted Valentine’s Day challenge to beat all others as New Yorkers are being tempted to display their emotions for someone they don’t like - and then ‘seal it with a hiss’.
The offer from the Bronx Zoo is to name a Madagascar hissing cockroach after one of two types that a person may know - either an ex-lover or the traditional mother-in-law hate figure. And the daring out there may be tempted by doing it for a loved one who they hope has a sense of fun and a sense of humour as well.
The Zoo began the ‘name-a-roach’ programme four years ago and the idea still has legs for many denizens across the Big Apple. Foxny.com reports that the zoo revealed that thousands of people in New York had taken advantage of this ‘strange’ sweetheart deal. The organisers give each recipient accepted by them a certificate by email with the name of their chosen person on it and take a $10 fee which goes to the Wildlife Conservation Society.
