Victorious USA women's football team to parade in New York City

In a rare breach with protocol, New York City will be hosting a ticker-tape parade for the US women’s football team following their World Cup 5-2 win over Japan on Sunday.

Due to the high costs and disruptive logistics of holding a parade in Manhattan, the city has long refused to host parades for sports teams who do not call NYC home.

However, Mayor Bill de Blasio made an announcement that an exception would be made and the players would be celebrated with a parade down the Canyon of Heroes in Lower Manhattan at 11am on Friday. The last parade for a non-city team was for the 1984 Olympic gold medal winners. Read more: nytimes.com
