American companies now face looser restrictions on establishing subsidiaries with Cuba, and any American may do business with Cubans outside of the island nation. Cubans traveling to the United States will now be allowed to open bank accounts, and more passenger ships are now permitted to carry tourists and goods for international sports competitions. These new regulations follow the push to restore diplomatic ties over the past year, and reflect President Obama’s advocacy for lifting all trade and travel restrictions, a measure that can only take place with the support of Congress.
