US warns of ‘imminent terrorist attack’ in Addis Ababa

The US Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia has warned of a possible ‘imminent terrorist attack’ in the city by Somali militant group al Shabaab. It has urged its citizens to avoid large crowds as well as hotels and restaurants in the upscale Bole district of the capital. Ethiopian troops, alongside forces from Burundi, Djibouti, Kenya and Uganda, are part of an African Union mission fighting al Shabaab inside Somalia. Ethiopian security forces are said to have been on heightened alert since late last year after receiving strong evidence that al Shabaab was plotting further attacks in the capital after an earlier botched suicide bombing.
