Twenty miles of backcountry bike trails open in the Adirondacks

The Essex Chain Lakes complex in the central Adirondacks is already a popular recreational spot for kayakers and canoeists who enjoy paddling around the eight lakes and many ponds of the 19,600-acre preserve. Now cyclists can get in on the action with the opening of 20 miles of trails around the forested and lake-studded park. The trails stretch from Cedar River, to the Iron Bridge on the Hudson River, and around Deer Pond, Pine Lake and to Jackson Pond. Currently access to the trails is temporary until a management plan is approved. Then the trails will become a permanent feature. Read more:
