Basing its research on the cities that saw an increase in interest and growth in flight searches for the holiday period, travel search engine, Kayak, has identified ten trending cities around the world for New Year’s celebrations.
The hottest destinations in Europe are Reykjavik, where you can take in the Northern Lights, Amsterdam, celebrated for its nightlife, and Dublin, home of the pint of Guinness and traditional music sessions. Those wishing to head down for a bit of sunshine and Auld Lang Syne are favouring Sydney and Auckland this year, while Nashville, famous for country music and Minneapolis, known for its hip artiness, have won the US vote.
Party-goers looking to dance to some Mexican mariachi music are heading to Guadalajara, while the colonial coolness of Lima is drawing people to Peru. Finally, San Salvador's excellent location within easy reach of the ocean and the mountains makes it an excellent base for day trips.
