Tourists caught in crossfire during Spanish resort riot

At least 16 people, including tourists, have been injured during a riot at a Catalan resort town following the death of a local immigrant during a police raid. Hundreds of immigrants took to the streets of Salou, 100km south of Barcelona, on Tuesday to protest over the death.

The man who died was a Sengalese street hawker who jumped off a balcony during a police operation on a gang accused of selling fake designer goods. During the riot, protesters hurled street furniture and overturned rubbish bins while police fired on them with rubber bullets. Renfe trains in the area were disrupted because of barricades laid on the tracks. Read more:
