Tourists abandoned at top of Vienna's big wheel
Two Polish tourists were stranded at the top of Vienna’s famous Ferris wheel after asking for a romantic trip on their own just before it closed.
The staff member who allowed them the second trip didn’t pass on the message to a colleague, who turned off the lights and went home without realising they were still at the top. The tourists enjoyed the view for 40 minutes before calling for help on their mobiles. They were quickly rescued and given a bottle of champagne by way of apology when they got down to the ground. The Wiener Riesenrad was built in 1897 is one of Vienna’s best loved tourist attractions.
