Tourist support centres to open in Ho Chi Minh City
Amid concerns that recent incidents of street crimes targeting foreign tourists are tarnishing Ho Chi Minh City’s reputation, officials there plan to open two tourist support centres.
The centres, which will operate under the city’s tourism promotion centre, are intended to be places that victims of ‘snatch and run’ robberies and rip-offs can seek assistance. So far this year in the city more than 120 complaints have been made by tourists regarding robberies. Most recently, a German tourist was attacked with a knife and robbed in the downtown area on 19 October. The support centres are set to open in December, with more planned next year.
