Tourist dies after rental car plunges down cliff in New Zealand

One person died and five survivors are in hospital after a rental van carrying a group of tourists plunged down a 40m cliff in New Zealand on Sunday. One man climbed the cliff and waved down a car to raise the alarm. The party had been in New Zealand for ten days. The high percentage of road accidents involving foreign drivers has prompted road safety campaigners to call for compulsory lessons on local road rules. The government has recently rolled out some driver safety initiatives at the rental company level but others are calling for tougher action. Read more:
