Tourist airlifted to hospital after Cliffs of Moher fall
A French woman had to be airlifted to hospital by rescue services after falling while on a cliff walk in Ireland yesterday.
The alarm was raised early in the afternoon when the visitor fell a short distance south of the Cliffs of Moher in Clare.
Local volunteers from Irish Coast Guard were mobilised and because the area into which the woman plunged was not accessible by vehicles, they had to trek across the rough terrain to get to her.
The tourist, who suffered a broken ankle in the fall, was carried back by the volunteers on a stretcher to the visitor centre where she was met by ambulance personnel.
However, the Irish Examiner reported that as the paramedics began treating her, they became concerned about her condition and called for a helicopter to airlift her to hospital.
The Irish Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched and the woman was airlifted to University Hospital Galway.
