LP Pathfinders: top family travel posts from October 2017

Kids Blog - oct-round-up
Watching the boats in Venice © Katy Clarke

There's a sustainable travel slant to our round-up this month, with posts on eco-friendly toys and a cycle-only family trip. Then there’s a post on desert adventures for families and finally we hop to Venice and Cologne to find out what’s good to do with kids in both cities.

In our screen-obsessed world we sometimes forget about the alternatives. This post suggests different sustainably-made toys which will keep your kids happy as you travel. Technology definitely has its uses on long trips with kids but it is rather nice to be reminded of the value of simple toys too.

Joss blogs at littlegreenglobetrotter.com where she aims to show readers that you can travel sustainably with a young family.

Cycling towards the horizon – Mem Selwood

Our sustainable travel focus continues with this great post on taking a trip in rural Devon, England, only using bikes. It’s informative, interesting and inspiring. We think Cass and Mem are brave enough, but their young children are particularly impressive cycling up hills in the rain!

Cass, Mem and their kids sold their possessions to travel where the wind takes them. Follow their progress at towardsthehorizon.com.

Desert adventures for families – Marta Correale

Inspired by a trip to Joshua Tree in California, Marta has polled fellow family travel bloggers to create this post on desert adventures with families. Deserts aren’t necessarily regarded as the most family-friendly destinations so we like that this post challenges any preconceptions we might have.

Marta explores the world with her husband and two kids. Follow her blog at learningescapes.net

Cologne with kids – Evie Farrell

Here at Lonely Planet Kids we love posts which are packed with ideas to engage kids. With a museum on chocolate and the Olympics, a cable car, mini-golf and a chance to take in a 360 panorama, Evie and Emmie have given us plenty of reasons to put Cologne on our family travel bucket list.

Evie and her daughter Emmie have been travelling for over a year. Read more at mumpacktravel.com.

Venice with kids – Katy Clark

Think you can't enjoy Venice with kids in tow? Read this post on how Katy and her family had fun exploring this beautiful city. There are recommendations based on different ages and some interesting ideas such as visiting a gondolier workshop.

Katie blogs at untoldmorsels.com where she is on a mission to share food and cultural experiences to make your travel memorable.
