This Valentine's Day - All you need is love - and homemade chocolates
All you need is love and homemade chocolate treats to get to your special one’s heart in New York this Valentine’s weekend. In some city boroughs, you can even go one better to impress the one in your life by seeking out homemade and handmade chocolates.
In Queens, Margie Schmidt of Schmidt’s Candy still hand-dips the chocolate in her Woodhaven shop. The store has been in the family name since her grandfather opened on Jamaica Ave some 90 years ago, the Daily News reports. Shopper Joe Rivera had one word to describe the chocolate in Schmidt’s Candy store. “Delicious,” he said as he bought orders for his wife, daughter and granddaughter. The owner explained that she makes fresh delights downstairs for her Valentine’s Day rush.
And if you are looking for the really chocolate exotic this weekend, then the Chocolate Works in Brooklyn Heights is the place to seek out their signature truffle combining white and dark chocolate into bite-sized pieces to delight on. The shop hosts workshops so that people can design their own pieces. The stores event planner, Sia Bayiokos, said it wasn’t all about just eating, it was educational as well.
