Texas theme park opens rare wooden rollercoaster

The world’s first wooden ‘shuttle’ roller coaster opened on Saturday at ZDT’s Amusement Park in Seguin, TX, just west of Houston.

A shuttle roller coaster is one that does not make a complete circuit around a track, but stops at some point and reverses across the same track backwards. Previously all shuttle roller coasters have been made of steel. The new wooden coaster, named ‘Switchback’, begins with a 62ft drop and whisks riders over 2125ft of tight twists and turns, and then back again in reverse.
