Where in the world could this futuristic hotel be located?
A futuristic hotel proposal may soon become a reality – but the question remains where in the world it will be located when it does.
WSP Design Studio and architecture firm Innovation Imperative have unveiled plans for a sustainable modular hotel – one with incredible geometric pods that appear to stand on a small point. According to the companies, a location has not been selected, but the hotel will be located in a “geographically stunning location” and will aim to be carbon neutral with a focus on sustainable agriculture and forest management. There are a number of locations in the running – like Cabo Verde, Norway, Canada, New Zealand, Spain, Portugal, Andorra, Hungary and the UK – and the first location is set to be revealed this summer.
The hotels will have 42 suites found in pods as well as space for art and design exhibitions. The hotel plans are an extension of the architecture firm’s previous office pod. Now, engineers from WSP are working on a “proof of concept study”. If you’re wondering just what the pods will include, the design plans show that each 19-metre-tall pod will have multiple floors inside. The top floor will have a bed and a skylight, while a shower is below. There are also spaces with a couch and another that has a desk. There will also be hotel amenities like bars and restaurants, as well as exhibition spaces that are designed to attract creatives.
In addition to looking futuristic, the hotel is also designed to be sustainable, with the aim of creating a structure that is entirely off-grid. The hotel will use sea water for cooling and solar panels for hot water.
While the project is currently only in the planning stage, it will certainly have forward-thinking travellers wondering where the first will be created.
