Tanzania president pledges to never evict Maasai

The president of Tanzania has used his twitter account to deny claims that the government has any plans to evict the Maasai from their ancestral lands on the fringe of the Serengeti. Global uproar had swelled after news broke last week about the government reintroducing plans to forcibly remove the Maasai to make way for a hunting reserve for Arab royalty. 'There has never been, nor will there ever be, any plan by the government of Tanzania to evict the Maasai people from their ancestral land' tweeted President Jakaya Kikwete.
