Swiss cheese consumption on the up with local cheeses a firm favourite
Swiss people ate more Swiss cheese last year than the year before, according to a report released by the Swiss Farmers Union.
The additional 260 grams munched brings the average annual consumption up to an impressive 21.49kg per person. And while the price of local cheese can often be higher than imported alternatives, regional favourites are still the most popular in the country with almost 70% of cheese consumed Swiss-made, including Le Gruyère, Emmental and Raclette.
