Elk alert: sensor that flashes to warn motorist wins award
Swedish boffin Benjamin Eliasson has won a 'Golden Elk' award for designing a sensor designed to prevent road accidents in remote areas caused by wild animals such as elk.
The sensors detect large animals near roads, and send signals to pole which flash to alert motorists to the potential hazard. The idea caught the attention of the non-profit organisation Älgskadefondsföreningen, which aims to reduce road accidents in Sweden, and they presented Eliasson with the award on Wednesday.
