Get a summer job travelling around the US and Canada naming paint colors
We love hearing about amazing summer jobs that involve travel, but this particular opportunity is one of the more unusual and colorful ones that we've come across. Behr Paint Company is offering a dream job to a creative person who loves color, is intrigued by the names of their favorite paint shades, crayons and nail polishes, and wants to explore vibrant travel destinations.
The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to serve as the brand’s first-ever 'Behr Color Explorer.' He or she will travel across the US and Canada to source inspiration from colorful destinations, wild and whimsical adventures and bold events, which they will use to create and name new Behr paint colors. The successful applicant will be open to adventure, have a passion for unearthing new hues and fresh color schemes, and will keep their finger on the pulse of the latest trends.
The experiences the Color Explorer will enjoy include kayaking the glacial blues of Lake Louise in Banff, people-watching at a vibrant music festival, and taking in the bold exteriors of Charleston’s Rainbow Row. He or she will capture detailed field notes and photos of the color inspiration discovered at each stop, and will share the color exploration journey on social media and Colorfully, the BEHR blog. Afterwards, they will be tasked with developing and naming new paint colors with the brand’s color marketing team at its Orange County headquarters.
“People are fascinated by the paint color-naming process,” said Erika Woelfel, the company's vice president of color and creative services. “It requires a lot of time and creativity, because each name tells a microstory about the specific shade. Our color experts travel the globe tracking down emerging color trends, and we’re excited to give our Behr Color Explorer a glimpse into this process by sending them on a search for new, dynamic hues to add to Behr Paint’s color collection.”
The successful applicant will receive a $10,000 (€8968) stipend, pre-paid flights, and lodging and experiences throughout their colorful pursuit. To be in with a chance of being considered, applicants should visit here and tell Behr what color inspires them most and why by 15 May 2019. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, hold a valid passport, and be a resident of the continental US or Canada.
