Sultan’s palace in Istanbul to be converted into presidential offices

Turkey’s president Erdoğan has revealed plans to convert the Yildiz Palace into his presidential offices in Istanbul. The palace complex was the last administrative home of the Ottoman empire and was used by the empire’s ruling sultans between 1880 and 1922.

At present the site, which is located in Istanbul’s Beşiktaş district, is a tourist attraction and includes a hotel, a theatre and opera house, a museum and palace gardens that are a popular public park. Once ownership of the palace is transferred to the presidential administration, the site will be emptied and closed for renovations. Read more:
