Ride a submarine through a biosphere reserve at this resort in the Maldives
A trip to the Maldives is likely to feature a lot of hanging out in a villa or lounging on a white sand beach, but there’s a whole underwater world to explore – and one resort will take you there with a new submarine excursion.
The Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru will launch new "world exclusive" submarine trip on board a new luxury-brand submarine. The trips will take two guests on a sub-aquatic dive to explore the Maldives’ only Unesco Biosphere Reserve. A professional pilot will take the travellers to see the corals, fish and aquatic wildlife from a new perspective – allowing the guests to just sit back and enjoy the magic of the sea without getting wet.
The submarine is a DeepFlight Super Falcon 3S, which is described as “the pinnacle of personal submarine technology”. The battery-operated and environmentally-friendly submarine has individual viewing domes that provide 360-degree underwater views. The submarine is also designed to minimise the impact on the environment and not to disturb marine life, making it easier to see everything close up. The pilot will also narrate each dive with educational, real-time commentary. Each trip will take about one hour and will cost US$1500 (€1265) per flight for up to two passengers. Pre-booking is essential through Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru or here.
With nearly 1200 islands in the Maldives, the country is a popular site of high-end resorts, many of which continue to offer more extravagant attractions to lure in luxury travellers. Recently, the Conrad Maldives Rangali announced plans for what it’s calling the world’s first undersea residence, where guests can truly sleep with the fishes. The incredible waters that make the islands so attractive are also under efforts for protection, as new nature parks are set to open in June.
