This stunning structure is set to be built 1600 metres high and set into a cliff edge in Beirut
A stunning new design is set to be built 1600 metres high into a sheer cliff face at Faqra Mountain near Beirut in Lebanon that will offer those staying in the living space a truly breathtaking experience.
Called Casa Brutale, the geometrical design was created by OPA /LAAV Architects and will feature wood, glass and concrete being surrounded by earth, water and air. The roof of the building will be a reinforced glazed bottom swimming pool while three thick insulated concrete slabs will house a glass structure embedded into the rock face that overhangs a cliff with views of the Mediterranean Sea. Plans are in place for the project to break ground this March, with the end of 2018 being the estimated date for completion.
The structure is designed to harness thermal insulation from the surrounding ground, as well as the cooling properties of the swimming pool above. Aside from the very top of the building that leads to the lower chambers, no part of the structure extrudes beyond ground level. It is designed so that light will penetrate the transparent surfaces, bringing dynamic refractions and shadows into play within the bare concrete structure. Fifty descending steps will lead guests to the entrance of the minimalist property that features a concrete cast dining table and benches and a wooden door that rotates to offer sea views. An inner staircase consisting of steel steps leads to a mezzanine floor where the master bedroom is exposed to a wide, uninterrupted view. The room will feature a bed cast from concrete and mirrored walls to enhance light and shadow.
“I believe that time and a space for contemplation is the new luxury. A minimal space without decorations or frills, a place where you can isolate and have a break from the noisy daily routine”, said Laertis Antonios Ando Vassiliou, Founder of LAAV Architects. The property will be owned by Alex Demirdjian, CEO of Demco Properties that already owns RedRock Village and Spa 200 metres below the site. It is thought that the property may be made available as a rental space for holiday makers looking for a unique getaway.
