St. Louis' Gateway Arch celebrates 50th birthday
The famed Gateway Arch in St. Louis celebrates its’ 50th year tomorrow. The final piece of the Arch was put into place on 28 October, 1965.
The tram to the top opened two years later in 1967, and the adjoining Museum of Westward Expansion opened nine years after that. Festivities including free cupcakes, commemorative lapel pins, and rides to the top of the Arch for $1, the price charged when the tram opened in 1967, are scheduled for Wednesday.
