Warm rainy California spring sees National Forest poppies in full bloom
Take some much needed rain and throw in a pile of warm spring weather and the result is a once-in-a-generation display of poppies in one of California’s National Forests.
Los Padres, north-east of Santa Barbara, is home to Grass Mountain and right now that grass has been overshadowed by thousands of orange poppies. It’s quite a hike up the mountain but the reward is a spectacular display that is unlikely to be repeated for many years – or last too much longer longer this year so get there soon if you don’t want to miss out.
