Spain planned to attack Australia in 1790s

Recently discovered Spanish naval documents show that Spain planned to use a 100-ship armada to invade British colonies in Australia in the 1790s. Spain was concerned about the influence the colonies would have on Pacific interests and planned to attack Sydney from South America. The plans were abandoned, and historians believe the British would have quickly retaken the colonies had it come to fruition. Read more: thelocal.es
