South Korea extends visas and waives fees amid MERS downturn

South Korea has announced it will waive visa fees for visitors from east and southeast Asia from the sixth of July until 30 September in an attempt to counteract a slowing tourism economy as a result of the MERS outbreak.

Tourism has slowed considerably in the country, despite the fact that no new cases of MERS have been reported in the past four days. In addition to waiving fees, all one-off visas issued earlier in the spring will be automatically extended to six months. Read more:
