Songkran brings the world’s biggest water fight to Thailand

Songkran celebrations kicked off in Thailand on 13 April, bringing the country the world’s biggest water fight. The three-day festival is the Thai traditional New Year celebration and is celebrated with splashing water and putting powder on each other’s faces to symbolize cleansing and washing away the sins from the previous year. This year’s celebrations were expected to be more sombre following the October 2016 death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
