German weather service puzzles residents with snow alert during heatwave

While most of Germany has been basking in temperatures of up to 35ºC, residents in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia were surprised to hear that they were about to receive snow.

The German Weather Service (DWD) issued the warning on Wednesday, forecasting up to 10cm of snow and 60km/h winds, but later took to Twitter to reassure sunbathers that their new alert system had sent out a false report. A spokesperson from DWD said, ‘Naturally given the temperatures outside one need not worry about snow drifts.’ Read more:
