German weather service puzzles residents with snow alert during heatwave

Lonely Planet WriterWhile most of Germany has been basking in temperatures of up to 35ºC, residents in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia were surprised to hear that they were about to receive snow.

The German Weather Service (DWD) issued the warning on Wednesday, forecasting up to 10cm of snow and 60km/h winds, but later took to Twitter to reassure sunbathers that their new alert system had sent out a false report. A spokesperson from DWD said, ‘Naturally given the temperatures outside one need not worry about snow drifts.’ Read more: thelocal.de
