Skier survives 1600-ft fall down Alaskan mountain

Though it only lasts a minute, a 1600-foot tumble down a mountain in Alaska must have seemed much longer to professional skier Ian McIntosh.

McIntosh’s astounding fall down a mountain in the Neacola range was captured back in April during the making of a ski and snowboarding film, called Paradise Waits by Teton Gravity Research. The filmmakers uploaded the footage of the fall this week.

The Teton Gravity Research blog says that McIntosh fell into an unseen five-foot deep trench, which led to the fall. He apparently pulled an airbag to prevent injuries and cartwheeled to the bottom in less than a minute.
