Singapore Zoo ditches elephant rides due to safety

Visitors to Singapore Zoo will no longer be able to partake in elephant rides as the zoo moves to adopt a safer environment for both elephants and their keepers. Rides will cease from 5 January, but the zoo’s new elephant management system could take up to five years to fully implement, as enclosures will need to be redesigned to ensure elephants have adequate space to roam. A twice-daily ‘elephants at work and play’ show, however, will continue at Singapore Zoo until further notice. Read more:
