Sheep to turn Welsh fields into wi-fi hotspots

A project to connect the countryside in North Wales could see sheep and badgers given digital tags, soil sensors that warn of erosion and riverbank devices that provide flood alerts. The Internet of Things concept involves everyday objects being controlled or monitored remotely via smartphones. Each tag or sensor could also be used as a wi-fi access point – the tags on sheep’s collars would have a five km range. The project is currently small-scale, with research in a handful of locations, but if it proves effective it could be extended. Read more:
