Shanghai to build German-style suspended monorail system

Authorities in Shanghai yesterday announced plans to build a ‘hanging’ monorail system within the next five years. The system will be based on the German H-bahn, a driverless suspended railway system used in Dortmund and Düsseldorf. Trains will have glass walls and will travel up to 30 kilometres per hour. Initially the system will consist of three lines operating in the Jing’an, Yangpu and Baoshan districts. Read more:
