The scheme doubles the previous 72-hour visa-free transit scheme offered by a number of Chinese cities. Under the scheme, passengers who have an onward air ticket to a third destination may stopover in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang without obtaining a visa beforehand. Flights may be arriving and departing from Shanghai or the two provincial capitals, Nanjing and Hangzhou.
