Series of parcel bombs kill seven, injure 51 in southern China

A series of mail bombs set off in southern China have killed at least seven people and injured more than 50.

A total of 17 blasts went off at sites in and around Liuzhou, a city in Guangxi province, on Wednesday afternoon, with a further explosion at an apartment building on Thursday morning. The blasts occurred at markets, malls, a bus station, a hospital and government buildings and were purportedly delivered as parcel bombs through the mail. Postal services were halted in the area after the blasts, and police were investigating one suspect. Authorities claimed that the blasts were a ‘criminal act’ and had no connection to terrorism.
