Seaweed invasion affects Mexican tourist resorts

Mexico’s Caribbean coastline is known for its golden beaches and clear waters, but right now popular resorts from Cancún to Isla Holbox  are covered in tons of brown sargassum algae, a seaweed that grows in the Sargasso Sea, and that’s causing problems for tourism officials.

Although it’s not dangerous to beach users and is in fact helpful for nesting turtles, visitors see it as ugly, meaning authorities are working to clear it as soon as possible. Read more: travelmole.com
