Seattle brewery creates first completely local beer

Beermakers have previously had to rely on ingredients produced from an array of sellers located in a variety of regions: a Colorado brewery might brew a beer using locally sourced water but barley grown in Idaho and hops harvested in Oregon. But the Pike Brewing Co. in Seattle says it has created the first 100% Washington beer. Using ingredients grown and harvested from nearby farms, the Skagit Valley Alba is the first beer made from locally sourced ingredients. The brewery says the local ingredients impart a local terroir similar to wine varietals. The beer is a limited-run release available at bars, restaurants and bottle shops around Seattle. Read more:
