Sea lion rescue mission underway in California

California animal rescue centres normally deal with a few dozen underweight sea lion pups at this time of year, but so far in 2015 they’ve helped over one thousand of them, five times more than usual. Welfare groups have been overwhelmed by the numbers of starving pups, and SeaWorld has become involved too, cancelling its sea lion shows to help with the rescue efforts instead. Warmer waters which push the sea lions’ food sources further north are thought to be a possible reason for the situation. Read more:
