Scotland’s Outer Hebrides produce their first gin

The Scottish islands are best known for their whisky, but there’s a new spirit in town.

The new Isle of Harris distillery is producing the Outer Hebrides’ (also known as the Western Isles) first gin. The drink will be flavoured with sugar kelp, which will be hand-dived from the seas around the Tarbert distillery. The producers say the ingredient would add saltiness and sweetness to the gin. A number of new independent breweries and distillers have set up in Scotland in recent years. Read more: bbc.co.uk
