Moves to ease tourist visas for entry to Russia
Eight tour operators in Russia have asked the country’s Foreign Ministry to ease visa requirements for foreign tourists with the aim of boosting tourism to Russia.
The agencies have proposed several measures that could be introduced, such as issuing electronic visas and visas on arrival, as well as the introduction of a 72-hour visa-free travel for visitors from Western Europe in transit through Russia. The tour operators believe that Russia’s strict visa system is the main factor obstructing the country’s inbound tourism, and that complete abolishment of the visa regime would gradually increase the number of visitors from Europe and the US by 30% to 40%.
