Blessed are the cheesemakers: Russian monastery to get a mozzarella factory

Monks from the Orthodox monastery at Valaam, located on an island in in Lake Ladoga north of St Petersburg, have set up a mozzarella factory. One of the monks, Father Agapy, went to Italy to take a cheesemaking course, after which he will teach the other monks his new skills. The cheese production line is expected to be working by December. According to the monastery’s spokesman, the decision to start producing cheese is unrelated to Russia’s recently introduced ban on imported food. Read more:
