Rubbish blights Vietnam’s popular Phu Quoc Island
Tourists and businesses have expressed concern over the extent of a litter problem affecting parts of Phu Quoc Island, a popular beach-holiday destination off the coast of southwest Vietnam.
According to reports, discarded garbage is a common sight on the island’s beaches, in waterways and on streets, with some local resort staff collecting multiple sacks of refuse each day in an attempt to clear up the problem. The particular geographical location of the island has been cited as contributing to the issue, with experts also pointing out that refuse from the mainland washes up on the island during the northeastern monsoon.
