This New York rooftop pool imported sand from the Hamptons so you can stay in the city
Skip the Friday traffic and give up your seat on the Hamptons Jitney - Manhattan’s got you covered. Once the sweltering summer temperatures set in, native New Yorkers are out of the city quicker than you can say ‘Montauk!’ Thankfully, those left behind in the humidity can take solace that the Big Apple’s largest hotel pool is bringing the Hamptons to them.
Dream Downtown will open its pool to the public on Friday, 19 May. Fulfilling this year’s beach theme, the hoteliers are literally importing sand from the Hamptons to make the almost-5000 sq ft area as close to reality as possible.
The West-side based rooftop also boasts a glass-bottomed swimming pool, which looks into the hotel lobby, and a 700 sq ft bar. The hotel has gained notoriety recently due to its massive 10lb Mega Moscow Mules - that’s a 185 oz cocktail served in a giant copper cup, which will keep at least 8 people happily sipping in the sun. Just call it the Côte d’Chelsea!
You may have noticed the influx of gigantic animal and food themed floats on your Instagram feed recently. Dream Downtown also took note, and have teamed up with FUNBOY to ensure you get your perfect social media post with a rotation of novelty floats available on site.
Day passes for Dream Downtown are available from $65, but for a private cabana you are looking at shelling out a minimum of $1500.
Many of New York’s exclusive rooftop pools are unfortunately members and guests only. But money talks, so until you get your invite to the SoHo House for some celebrity spotting, you'll have to spend $250 a day to take the plunge at the Gansevoort, $150 to swim at Le Parker Meridien and $40 for a dip at La Piscine at Hotel Americano.
