Rome launches major fountain clean up campaign
Rome’s mayor has launched a €50,000 campaign to clean up and restore the city’s 50 most prominent fountains by 30 September, including ones in some of the city’s most famous squares.
He said, "we want to make our city increasingly beautiful and the fountains play a role in decorum and in the welcoming of tourists." Authorities are also considering increasing the level of fines for those caught taking a dip in the city’s fountains, after several high profile incidents involving tourists during the hot summer.
