London council threatens rickshaw driver ban
A London council has announced plans to ban rickshaw drivers, just days after a Dutch man was charged £600 for a half-hour trip to Selfridges.
Camden Council wants to introduce a public space protection order to prohibit the vehicles. It would affect large parts of the West End . The vehicles have been linked to high charges and aggressive touting for trade. Earlier this year, another rickshaw driver asked for £206 for a one mile journey along Oxford St, saying ‘I work my legs hard, I look good and I play good music – you have to pay a lot if you want that kind of luxury.’ Camden will be consulting over the order until 15 February.
